Alles da: jede Menge SATA Ports (mit einem guten ICH9 Chipsatz), niedriger Stromverbrauch, eine Zwei-Port-Intel-Netzwerkkarte, Platz für 4GB Speicher und, falls doch mal ein HTPC draus werden sollte, Platz für eine kleine Grafikkarte. Super-Teil, mit fast 200 Euro zwar nicht billig, aber auch nicht überteuert, finde ich. Außerdem sollten die vielen Intel-Komponenten dafür sorgen, dass die Linux-Kompatibilität einwandfrei ist.
Demnächst muß ich wohl meine Emails anders verwalten, zustellen, aufheben und sortieren als das bis jetzt über meinen Uni-Account möglich war. Spannende Programme in diesem Zusammenhang scheinen zu sein:

Slowly, solidify is improving. Bidirectional synchronisation should work now, although this does not make any sense yet, since the file system is still read-only. However, all the foundations are laid now and things should improve from now on. The user interface is still rough, and a non-writeable file system is largely useless for now. Unfortunately, my time is pretty limited currently – my dissertation comes first.

Da stellt sich jetzt also die Frage, Herr Beck, was verlangt genau die Lösung eines (bewiesenermaßen) unlösbaren Problems? Und was genau wollten Sie uns damit sagen? Falls Sie meinen, dass es unmöglich ist, warum sagen Sie dann ‚kaum miteinander vereinbar‘? Ausgerechnet auf dem Bildungsgipfel…
Interessant ist meiner Meinung auch, dass viele Medien diesen Satz zitieren, sich aber niemand darüber zu wundern scheint. So weit ist es her mit der mathematischen Allgemeinbildung [PDF] heutzutage…
It is my pleasure to announce the second release of solidify, the remote, cached, synchronising FUSE file system. Version 0.2.0 can be obtained on the download page.
It has been a long time since the first release, but I have been occupied with my dissertation and life in general. I hope to be more productive in the next months.
Changes are: Many more safety checks and a command line tool that allows files to be selected for solidification in a mounted file system as well as bugfixes. There is a full overview over the current limited status and some new documentation.
This is the first (pre-)alpha release of solidify, a remote, cached, synchronising FUSE file system. It is written by Jan Essert and released under the GPL.

This week, I was having a coffee with Petra and Immanuel and we were discussing the importance of good notation.
Somehow, the idea of writing a script that permutes the notation in a given document came up, perhaps to illustrate this viewpoint.
It sounded like a fun project, and so I wrote permute_notation.py, a short Python script that takes a latex file and produces a copy of the file with completely permuted notation. The effects are not really surprising: usually, you do not understand your own work anymore :)
You can download it and try for yourself. It is quite simple to use: permute_notation.py input.tex output.tex
Attention: The script unconditionally overwrites output.tex, so be careful!
By default, the script permutes lower and upper case Latin and Greek letters. You can specify the switch -s to permute alphabets only among themselves, such that the text might remain at least barely legible.
As usual, the script is provided under the GPL.
Note: This script has been tested to work with my diploma thesis(result [PDF]). I hope that it will also work with your document. If not, just copy a latex snippet which is permuted incorrectly into the comments and I will take care of it.
Ich habe gerade sehr beeindruckende Fotografien des Sternenhimmels über den Osterinseln gefunden. Sehen etwas unecht aus, scheinen aber echt zu sein. Da sieht man mal, was Lichtverschmutzung so anrichtet. Besonders beeindruckend finde ich den Mondregenbogen. Ich wusste gar nicht, dass es das gibt.
